Abortion—Are there Risks?
You are pregnant—unexpectedly. Your baby’s heart is beating if you are more than three weeks pregnant. You are now a mother.
This may be a scary time for you. You have many important decisions to make for yourself and the life that is growing inside of you.
At Human Life Services, education is one of the many services that we offer. We want you to make a well-informed decision whether you choose to keep your baby, place your child into a loving home through adoption or prematurely end your pregnancy through abortion.
To help you decide whether abortion is best for you, here are a few facts.
If you have an abortion, you:
- may have trouble getting pregnant again1
- have a 50% higher chance of breast cancer2
- are 600% more likely to develop “placenta previa” in future pregnancies, where the placenta tears, which may cause life-threatening bleeding3
- risk dying during a future pregnancy because of the increased likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy4
- are 23% more likely to develop an infection from the abortion if you have a sexually transmitted disease5
Are there emotional effects of having an abortion? Half of women who have had an abortion suffer with Post-Abortion Syndrome. They struggle with thoughts of suicide, depression, guilt, nightmares or other emotional problems. Many have trouble forming relationships. Some develop eating disorders. Others abuse drugs or alcohol.
Before you decide what to do, contact us. We can help. We do not perform or refer for abortions, but we are committed to offering accurate information about abortion procedures and risks, as well as your other options including adoption and parenting.
Before you visit an abortion clinic or provider, we urge you to ask yourself some very important health and safety questions.
