Get Involved Human Life Services is a non-profit organization that wants to enlist your help to make a difference in York County! Because of our non-profit status, we need caring, compassionate folks like you to partner with us. Human Life Services seeks to accomplish the following: meeting the spiritual, emotional and material needs of both the mother and child in a crisis pregnancy; and educating the public to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Volunteer Opportunities Abstinence Presenters Ability to go out to schools, churches and community groups to speak to teens on such issues as their sexuality, STDs and renewed virginity. Commitment: Attend 6-hour volunteer overview, eight 2-hour training seminars, observe and assist in six different presentations, be available to present a minimum of 4 times per year, research and attend quarterly meetings. Clothes Closet Many hands are needed to organize and maintain the many donations we receive for our clothes closet. We need volunteers to sort, organize and restock our Boutiques with maternity clothes and baby items. Commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours weekly or bi-weekly. Board Members Men and women who can provide spiritual leadership and direction for Human Life Services while exposing business associates and community members to our ministry. Commitment: Regular attendance at monthly meetings during term of office. Be on call as necessary by Executive Director for counsel. Counselors One-on-one opportunity to reach out to hurting women. Counselors instruct women in performing pregnancy tests and provide information on pregnancy, abortion alternatives, STDs, etc. Most importantly, counselors listen providing emotional and spiritual support. Commitment: Attend a 6-hour general volunteer overview. Attend 10 in-house training sessions. Attend counselor in-service meetings 4 times a year. Weekly or bi-weekly 4-hour shifts. Building/Winter Weather Maintenance Handy men or women who like to coordinate projects, do yard work, shovel snow or paint. Commitment: Individuals or small groups who will help with the upkeep of the building/grounds on a monthly, quarterly or even annual basis. Helpline Counselors After office hours, volunteers man our helpline from the comfort of their homes. Helpline counselors schedule appointments, take messages and provide on-the-spot crisis counseling (sometimes at 3 a.m.). This ministry is vital as the helpline may be our first contact with a prospective client. Commitment: Attend a 6-hour general volunteer overview. Attend a 4-hour in-house training. Attend annual helpline meetings. Weekly or bi-weekly shifts (usually 5 p.m. 9 a.m.). Bulk Mailings We need folks to help stuff, seal and label envelopes or newsletters. The mailing can be done from the comfort of your home if so desired. We give you the instructions and supplies and you bring it back within a day or two. Commitment: Varies depending on need. Must be able to pick up supplies and return them to HLS. Receptionists Responsibilities include answering the phones, scheduling appointments, greeting clients and light clerical duties. Flexible hours are available from 9 a.m. 5 p.m., Monday Friday. Commitment: Attend a 6- hour general volunteer overview. Weekly or bi-weekly 3 to 4-hour shifts. Church Liaisons Liaisons represent our ministry to their local church by actively promoting annual events such as the Walk-for-Life, Baby Bottle Boomerang, Banquet and Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Commitment: Create awareness of HLS events within the church. Volunteer Coordinator By working closely with the Executive Director, you will maintain volunteer files, process applications, coordinate different training programs, call volunteers for specific projects and inform volunteers of center business via a mini newsletter. Commitment: Attend volunteer overview. Approximately 2-3 hours bi-weekly.
